The therapist uses this state to provide the desired outcomes that the patient has specified. At no stage does the therapist take over the person’s mind or be able to implant unacceptable suggestions. When brought out of the trance the patient will feel very calm and relaxed.

Building rapport with the patient gains an understanding of the patient’s desired outcome. If the patient wants to stop smoking for health reasons the Hypnotherapist will reinforce the positive benefits to the patient’s health and emphasis other benefits like the health of those around them. If the patient is serious about giving up smoking it is likely that they will be successful.

In the case phobia or anxieties the fear can be scaled down to a level where it has no negative impact on their life. Someone I know was terrified of public speaking but now spends a significant part of their life giving talks to businesses internationally.

I must emphasized that Clinical Hypnosis is nothing like Stage Hypnotism which can be very entertaining and harmless but nonetheless requires co-operation from the participants to ‘play along’ with the show . As stated earlier you cannot be forced to do anything that you are not willing to do or that you would find unacceptable.
